Stark & Knoll Attorney Honored by University of Akron

Akron, Ohio – August 17, 2010 – Stark & Knoll Attorney, Philip S. Kaufmann, has been honored by The   University of Akron Board of Trustees for his “leadership, concern and devotion to the Board,” naming him Chairman Emeritus and presenting him with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the university.

Governor Bob Taft appointed Kaufmann to the Board of Trustees of The University of Akron on August 14, 2001, for a nine-year term ending July 1, 2010. His service to the Board included serving as Chairman from 2008-2010, Board liaison to The University of Akron Foundation and to the National Alumni Association Board of Directors, among others.

A 1971 graduate of The University of Akron School of Law, Kaufmann continues to bring “honor and recognition to the University and region through his outstanding achievements in the legal profession,” said board members. He is a four-year member of the National Alumni Association Board of Directors, a long-time member of the Zips Athletic Club and Z-Fund, and former officer and Trustee Emeritus of the University of Akron Foundation.

Kaufmann is the Chair of Stark & Knoll’s Estate Planning & Probate Group, through which he is known for his estate planning, elder care and special needs practice. University of Akron Board Members recognize him as: "an esteemed and respected leader in the community, filling positions of leadership on education, cultural and community boards and organizations, including the Diocese of Cleveland Foundation Board, Catholic Charities Corporation, Community Fund Management Foundation in Cleveland, the Salvation Army Advisory Board of Summit County, the Blossom Music Center Board of Overseers, the Summa Foundation Board and others too numerous to list here; and receiving accolades such as – 2002 Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year; Outstanding Alumnus of The University of Akron School of Law; Father Thomas F. Mahar Award as an outstanding alumnus of Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School; Akron Area Board of Realtors 1996 Citizen of the Year; Apostolate for Persons with Developmental Disabilities Services First Award; Heart to God, Hand to Man Award of the Salvation Army; and Ohio Association of Retired Citizens Distinguished Service Award.”
